SERVING SAN ANTONIO SINCE 1933

1915 - Mr. and Mrs. Marianus Grothues emigrated from Europe to find a new opportunities in America. They settled down and started a general store on what is now Guadalupe St. on the west side of San Antonio.

The general store soon flourished and successfully grew expanding its market by adding new commodities such as lumber. Despite the hardships of the Great Depression, that didn't stop the demand for lumber and construction business that was taking place in South Texas.

1933 - What started as the small general store selling bundles of lumber on the corner, The Grothues family founded it’s new business name - Guadalupe Lumber & Supply Company Inc.

Now evolving into a lumber yard, the company began adding more hardware merchandise as well as paint products. With the demand now rising for not only lumber but for a hardware retailer, the company outgrew the general store, which was phased out altogether and it was time to look for a bigger site.

1951 - The family moved the business in efforts of expansion to it's present location on South Zarzamora Street. The company was now firmly established and the Grothues family continued to grow, paving their legacy for generations to come.

1976 - A further upgrade was needed and new modern facility, with a huge sales floor of 54,000 square feet, was built on the existing site. In recent years, Guadalupe Lumber Company has continued to expand it's retail area. The return of general merchandise is evident in the store aisles as well as the addition of a flooring department, household cleaners, and major appliances.

Present - Guadalupe Lumber Company is still a 4th generation family owned business. We are apart San Antonio’s rich history, because we helped build it and our mission remains the same. To help you and or your business continue to build on & save on to further grow our great city
